It is expected within the current rules, that Charities who currently submit a Corporation Tax return will have to do this from April 2011. Of course, for the vast majority of smaller charities, the HMRC's online form will be sufficient.
We are working very closely with the Charity Finance Director's Group and the Charities Commission to ensure that their members are well briefed on the conversion of Charity Accounts to iXBRL.
In reality the process is the same as converting a set of commercial accounts, but a different Taxonomy should be used. This taxonomy was published in May 2010, and On July 30th 2010, HMRC released an update to the Charities Taxonomy with minor changes
We are delighted to be speaking at Charity Finance LIVE on Monday 18th October 2010, the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, London alongside Roger Chester (CFDG online filing Chair) and Jeff Smith (HMRC) ‘iXBRL online filing requirements’. The session is scheduled for 11.40 – 12.20.
Please take your seats early, the last time we ran the session it was standing room only!

There’s no need to upgrade to a full Accounts package to get iXBRL ready with the on-line conversion service. Use one of the Excel templates that has been tagged with iXBRL for the easiest and most cost-effective way to get HMRC compliant.
